Bhopal April 13, 2026. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has unveiled a locally developed electronic "Kisan Mitra" stick designed to detect venomous snakes from a distance of 100 meters, addressing a critical safety gap for India's rural workforce. Speaking at the National Agricultural Fair in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday, Chouhan underscored the device utilizes sensors to identify hidden reptiles and alerts the user through violent vibrations.Calling it a practical innovation for farmer safety, Chouhan noted the device is designed to help farmers protect themselves from poisonous creatures such as snakes and scorpions while working in fields. By offering an added layer of safety during routine farm activities, the tool is expected to reduce the risk of accidental bites and improve confidence among farmers, especially in remote and high-risk areas.

Key Features of the Kisan Mitra Chhadi; Vibration Alerts: When placed on the ground and activated via a button, the stick emits vibrations that can detect or warn against poisonous creatures like snakes within a 100-metre radius. The device is equipped with a built-in solar torch to provide visibility for farmers working at night, especially while irrigating fields. The device acts as a "safety shield," alerting farmers to potential danger so they can avoid moving forward into hazardous areas. The stick was developed to address the high frequency of snake bites and similar accidents that occur when farmers enter their fields at night. It was one of several modern technologies, alongside driverless tractors, displayed at the fair to improve safety and ground-level efficiency in Indian agriculture.

Technical Specifications; The device combines traditional utility with modern safety technology to address the risks of night-time irrigation and field monitoring. It Emits specific low-frequency vibrations capable of warning or detecting poisonous reptiles (snakes, scorpions) within a 100-metre radius. Besides lighting features an integrated solar-powered LED torch for visibility during night work without needing external batteries. The control is simply one-button operation to activate vibration alerts while walking. While specific material for the new stick varies by prototype, similar agricultural tools like the GlobeamSaathiKisan Torch utilize Strong ABS Plastic for durability and water resistance.

Following its launch, the Kisan Mitra Chhadi is gradually being made available to farmers through a mix of government-backed centres and rural agri-supply networks. The idea is to ensure that this simple yet useful safety tool reaches farmers directly where they need it most—in villages, farms, and local markets.

According to information, farmers looking to buy the device can first check with nearby Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and government-authorisedKisan Suvidha Kendras, which often serve as key points for distributing farm equipment and safety tools. These centres are expected to play an important role in creating awareness and helping farmers understand how to use the stick effectively in the field. In addition, the wider Kisan Mitra franchise network—already active in states such as Telangana and Andhra Pradesh—is helping take agri-products and safety gear closer to rural communities. Known for supplying essentials like sprayers and protective equipment at the village level, these outlets could become an important channel for the new tool’s wider adoption. Agri-tech platforms working under the Kisaan Mitra brand are also promoting innovative, “Built for Bharat” solutions tailored for Indian farming conditions. Farmers can explore product details, request demonstrations, or seek guidance through official digital platforms and local field representatives.

Sources disclosed that in Madhya Pradesh, groups such as Kisan Mitra Agro Science Pvt Ltd—run by agricultural students and experts—are also supporting farmers with information on modern tools and safer farming practices. Their outreach can help ensure that the new device is used not just as a product, but as part of a broader push for safer agriculture. For those who prefer online access, similar Kisan Mitra tools and safety products are also expected to be available through B2B platforms and agri-marketplaces. Altogether, the rollout of the Kisan Mitra Chhadi reflects a growing effort to combine innovation, accessibility, and farmer welfare at the grassroots level.
