In a major breakthrough against illegal drug cultivation, Madhya Pradesh Police have seized nearly 60 quintals of cannabis plants worth about Rs 3 crore from two remote locations in Khargone district. Drones were used to locate the fields in areas where mobile connectivity was unavailable.
The Khargone operation was the biggest among a series of anti-drug actions carried out across Madhya Pradesh over the past five days. Police said narcotics and other property worth more than Rs 3.91 crore were seized during operations in several districts. The crackdown covered cannabis, smack, poppy husk, MD drugs and brown sugar. Several suspects were arrested and vehicles allegedly used for transportation were also seized.
The Khargone action was carried out under Operation ‘Prahar’ at Jamli village and Guwada Thata Faliya. Both locations fall in shadow areas with no mobile network. Police teams used drones to search the fields before moving in through difficult terrain. They crossed river stretches, hills and other inaccessible routes to reach the cultivation sites. At Jamli, police seized 9,391 cannabis plants weighing 3,765 kg. Police estimated their value at Rs 1.88 crore. Another 5,800 plants weighing 2,209 kg were seized from Guwada Thata Faliya. Their estimated value was Rs 1.10 crore.
Together, police seized 15,191 plants weighing 5,974 kg, or 59.74 quintals. The crop was valued at approximately Rs 2.98 crore. Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway.

In a separate case in the same police station area, 120 grams of MD drugs valued at Rs 12 lakh were seized along with 4.7 kg of poppy husk, a motorcycle and a mobile phone. One accused was arrested. Garoth Police also recovered 221 kg of poppy husk from an unregistered tractor-trolley. A juvenile was taken into police custody in connection with the case.
Police put the combined value of narcotics and other property seized in the Mandsaur operations at over Rs 70.44 lakh.

In Gwalior, Dabra City Police arrested two alleged traffickers and recovered 13.128 kg of cannabis worth around Rs 1.50 lakh. According to police, preliminary questioning indicated that the cannabis had been brought from Odisha for sale in Dabra.
Panna Police carried out two operations and recovered more than five kg of cannabis. Three accused were arrested. Police valued the drugs and other seized property at around Rs 1.46 lakh. In Damoh, Tejgarh Police recovered 4.14 kg of cannabis and arrested two accused. A motorcycle was also seized. Shivpuri Police recovered 1.138 kg of cannabis and cash from an accused in Bairad. The latest operations show that the police action is covering different stages of the illegal drug chain, from cultivation and transportation to local distribution. The Khargone seizure stands out because of the scale of cultivation and the difficult terrain involved. Madhya Pradesh Police said action against illegal cultivation, transportation and trafficking of narcotic substances will continue across the state.
