“Villagers Should Become Maruti Owners”: Shah Explains New Growth Vision
Bastar/Bhopal May 19, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday presented what appeared to be a long-term roadmap for transforming India’s former Naxal-affected regions from conflict zones into centres of growth and opportunity. Addressing a press conference in Bastar, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned a five-year mission where the journey must move “from security to confidence, from confidence to development, from development to prosperity, and from prosperity to fulfilment.”
The statement carried both an emotional and administrative message. For decades, several tribal and forest regions in central India lived under the shadow of violence, fear and uncertainty. In many villages, daily life revolved around survival. Roads were missing, schools functioned irregularly, healthcare remained distant and government schemes often failed to reach the last mile. Young people in remote districts frequently grew up with limited opportunities and little connection with mainstream growth.

The Centre now appears to be projecting a different future for these areas;
According to Shah, security operations against Naxalism are only the beginning of the process. The next challenge is rebuilding public trust. Officials believe that once fear reduces and confidence increases, development activities can gain real momentum. Roads, electricity, mobile connectivity, banking access, irrigation, drinking water projects, schools, hospitals and employment opportunities are expected to become the next phase of intervention. Government sources have repeatedly maintained that development and security must move together. In recent years, several remote districts have witnessed expansion of road networks, better telecom connectivity and faster implementation of welfare schemes. The Centre believes such changes weaken the influence of extremism over time. Shah’s remarks also reflected a larger governance philosophy being promoted by the Modi government, that peace cannot be sustained only through force. Stability must eventually improve everyday life for ordinary citizens. Prosperity should not remain limited to cities alone but must reach tribal families living deep inside forest regions. The final phrase used by Shah — “from prosperity to fulfilment” — appeared particularly significant. It suggested that the government now wants to move beyond basic infrastructure and focus on dignity, aspirations and quality of life. Political observers believe the Centre is trying to reshape the image of India’s former Naxal belt, from a region once associated with violence and alienation into one associated with development, inclusion and hope.
Shah also said the government plans to empower villages through skill development, cooperative-driven growth models and sustained institutional support. Explaining the vision in simple terms, he remarked that the government may not be able to provide a Maruti car to every villager, but it certainly wants to build human capital in such a way that villagers become capable enough to own a Maruti car on their own. The statement reflected the Centre’s larger focus on self-reliance, dignity and economic empowerment rather than long-term dependence on welfare alone.

On the occasion, Dr. Yadav prayed to Maa Danteshwari for the happiness, prosperity and well-being of the people, while seeking her blessings for the continued progress, harmony and development of Madhya Pradesh.
