‘unacceptable conduct’ ips association hits back at mla over viral threat video

Bhopal April 21, 2026. A political storm has erupted in Madhya Pradesh following a viral video featuring BJP MLA Pritam Lodhi, who is seen openly challenging police authority and defending his son in connection with a recent road accident case. The controversy has sparked debate over political conduct, policing standards, and alleged selective enforcement of law. The video, which surfaced on social media on Monday, shows the BJP legislator confronting SDOP Dr Ayush Jakhad (IPS), in Karera in district Shivpuri. In the clip, Lodhi allegedly questions the officer’s authority, saying, “Is Karera your father’s property?” He further asserts that his son, Dinesh Lodhi, will continue to visit Karera and may even contest elections from the area. The tone of the remarks has drawn criticism, with many viewings it as an attempt to intimidate law enforcement.

Meanwhile the IPS Association Madhya Pradesh issued a strongly worded press note condemning remarks made by BJP MLA Pritam Singh Lodhi against a serving police officer. In a statement signed by the association president and ADG Chanchal Shekhar, released on April 21, 2026, the association criticized what it described as “indecent, undignified and threatening language” used by the MLA in a viral video targeting Karera SDOP Dr Ayush Jakhad (IPS). The press note stated that such comments are “highly condemnable and against the dignity of public life.”

The association took serious objection to the tone and nature of the remarks, noting that not only was a newly appointed police officer publicly targeted, but even comments involving his family were made in an inappropriate manner. The statement emphasized that such behavior is “completely unacceptable and unbecoming of a public representative.”

The IPS body further warned that such statements have wider implications beyond a single incident. It said that actions like these adversely impact the morale of administrative and police officials, potentially undermining the functioning of governance systems. “This conduct is against the dignity of an elected representative’s position and negatively affects the morale of the entire administrative machinery,” the note stated. Calling for restraint, the association urged public representatives to maintain decorum in both language and conduct. It stressed that in a Democratic System, the use of abusive or threatening language cannot be justified under any circumstances. The statement highlighted that such actions erode the neutrality and credibility of administrative institutions. Importantly, the IPS Association did not limit itself to criticism but also demanded appropriate action. It said that it “strongly condemns” the incident and expects necessary steps to be taken to address the issue.

In a notable remark, the association pointed out the timing of the controversy, calling it “unfortunate” that such an incident occurred on the very day associated with civil services recognition (Civil Services Day). The statement suggested that such behavior sends a negative message about the respect accorded to public servants.

The development adds a new dimension to the already ongoing dispute involving the MLA and the police, which had earlier escalated following a road accident case involving the MLA’s son. The viral video, which triggered the latest reaction, has now drawn institutional response from within the police fraternity, signaling that the issue has moved beyond a local disagreement to a matter of administrative concern. As the situation unfolds, the statement from the IPS Association is likely to intensify debate over the relationship between political leadership and law enforcement agencies.

The issue stems from an incident on April 16, when Dinesh Lodhi, the MLA’s younger son, was allegedly involved in a road accident. According to reports, his Thar SUV collided with five individuals, leaving them injured. In the immediate aftermath, MLA Pritam Lodhi issued a public statement on social media distancing his family from any undue privilege, stating, “For me, the public comes first, not my son or family.” The remark was initially seen as an attempt to project accountability. However, developments over the following days appear to have complicated that narrative. On April 18, Dinesh Lodhi was summoned to Karera police station for questioning. Sources indicate that during his appearance, SDOP Ayush Jakhad warned him against returning to Karera, allegedly saying, “Do not be seen in Karera again.” While the exact context of this remark remains unclear, it became a flashpoint in the escalating dispute between the MLA and the police.

In his viral video response, Pritam Lodhi accused the police of exaggerating a “minor accident” involving his son while ignoring more serious cases. He cited a separate incident that occurred on April 20, in which a container truck reportedly struck and killed a tribal woman. According to Lodhi, the truck driver dragged the victim’s motorcycle for nearly 18 kilometers after the collision. He alleged that despite the severity of the incident, the police failed to act with urgency. The MLA went further, accusing the Karera police of bias and corruption. “The police only focus on cases where they can extract money. The poor cannot pay, so their cases are ignored,” he claimed. These allegations have intensified scrutiny on local law enforcement and raised concerns about fairness in policing.

Responding to the controversy, SDOP Ayush Jakhad maintained that due process is being followed in both cases. “Action is being taken strictly as per the law. The individual involved in the accident was called for questioning, and the site of the incident was inspected,” he stated. Regarding the fatal container accident, police confirmed that a case has been registered against an unidentified driver and that an investigation is ongoing. The sequence of events highlights a growing tension between political figures and administrative authorities. What began as a road accident has now snowballed into a broader debate on accountability, influence, and the rule of law. The incident has also triggered public discourse on whether elected representatives should exercise restraint in their public statements, especially when legal proceedings are underway.

As the investigation continues, the episode underscores the delicate balance between political power and institutional authority. Whether this controversy leads to administrative action or fades as a political flashpoint will depend largely on how transparently the cases are handled in the coming days
