Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav once again sent out a strong message of simplicity and austerity on Thursday. Instead of travelling with a long official convoy, he chose to travel from Indore to Ujjain in a bus along with ministers, MPs and other public representatives.
The move immediately drew public attention. At a time when global uncertainty and the West Asia crisis are pushing governments across the world to focus on careful resource management and fuel conservation, Dr. Yadav’s decision reflected a message of restraint, responsibility and practical governance. The Chief Minister said the idea was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated appeal for austerity and careful use of public resources.
Speaking during the journey, Dr. Yadav said he was personally trying to follow the Prime Minister’s message by travelling in a local vehicle. Cabinet Minister, Member of Parliament, and several senior leaders also joined the bus journey. Dr Yadav said the country was passing through a period of global challenges and every effort should be made to use resources wisely and avoid unnecessary expenditure. The Chief Minister has been consistently trying to promote a new administrative work culture in Madhya Pradesh. The focus is on controlled government spending, fuel saving and reducing avoidable protocol-related expenses. The latest gesture was seen as part of that larger approach.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Dr. Yadav has avoided a traditional convoy. During his recent visit to Singrauli district, he had travelled to a programme venue in a tourist bus without an official convoy. At that time too, he had remarked that the real identity of a public representative comes not from protocol, but from the love and trust of the people. Political observers believe such symbolic gestures often create a direct emotional connection with the public. For many ordinary citizens watching the Chief Minister travel in a bus instead of a VIP convoy, the message appeared simple, public life should remain connected with simplicity, accountability and service.
