More than 1,100 people associated with railway services participated in International Yoga Day programmes organised by the Government Railway Police (GRP) across Madhya Pradesh, with a first-ever large-scale yoga session held at Rani Kamalapati Railway Station in Bhopal.

The event was organised on June 21 as part of the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations. Led by Additional Director General of Police (Railways) Rajababu Singh, the main programme was held on Platform No. 1 of Rani Kamalapati Railway Station. The initiative aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being and healthy ageing among railway personnel, passengers and others connected with railway services. The nationwide Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” formed the basis of the programme.
International Yoga Day, observed every year on June 21, has evolved into a global movement promoting preventive healthcare and holistic wellness. Across India, government institutions, educational campuses, workplaces and public spaces marked the occasion with yoga demonstrations and awareness activities. Madhya Pradesh also witnessed widespread participation in Yoga Day events held at various public locations.
Against this backdrop, the GRP organised yoga sessions in its police stations and outposts located across railway jurisdictions in the state. The main event at Rani Kamalapati Railway Station drew attention from travellers and railway staff, turning one of the country’s busiest railway hubs into a venue for a public wellness exercise.
Senior railway police officers attended the Bhopal programme. Among those present were Superintendent of Police (Railways), Bhopal, Ankit Jaiswal, Additional Superintendent of Police (Railways) Neetu Singh Dawar and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railways) Ramsnehi Chauhan.
According to official information, a total of 1,129 people participated in the yoga programmes organised by the GRP Bhopal unit and its affiliated stations and outposts. Participants included 402 GRP personnel, 150 Railway Protection Force jawans, 98 vendors, 85 porters, 10 pointsmen, 162 auto-rickshaw drivers, 50 rickshaw pullers, 50 railway employees and 122 others associated with railway services. The participants collectively performed yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation exercises. Organisers said the programme was intended to encourage a balanced lifestyle and greater awareness about the role of yoga in maintaining physical and mental health, especially among people working in high-mobility and high-stress environments such as railway networks.
The railway police plan to continue wellness and fitness-related activities for personnel in the coming months. Officials said the response to the Yoga Day programme reflected growing awareness about healthy living among people associated with railway services and public transport systems.
