Opposition to move a No Confidence Motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla?

Opposition parties plan to move a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the Budget Session's second phase, requiring 20 days' notice under parliamentary rules. Sources cite key grievances: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi denied speaking rights, especially on ex-Army Chief Naravane's memoir; women MPs wrongly named by the Chair for alleged PM attack plots; favoritism toward Treasury Bench MPs like Nishikant Dubey; and suspension of 8 opposition MPs for the entire session. This escalates after INDIA bloc meetings with Gandhi and Kharge, amid House disruptions wasting 19 hours. Congress women MPs protested Birla's "baseless" claims, calling for space in debates. Though NDA holds majority, the motion aims to spotlight alleged bias, echoing past tensions.

POLITICS

Rahul Gandhi asked Kanimozhi  to have some respect for Congress in TN?

The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reportedly urged DMK leader Kanimozhi to show respect to the grand-old party Congress in Tamil Nadu. The two leaders met at 10 Janpath to discuss the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, but no agreement was reached on seat-sharing. However, the DMK leader reaffirmed commitment to continue the alliance. The Congress had contested 25 out of 234 Assembly seats in 2021 and won 18 and this time, DMK is allotting same number of seats and is unwilling to increase Congress's seat share. Earlier, there were rumours that Congress may tie up with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, a newly floated political party by actor turned politician Vijay.

BJP to push collective leadership in West Bengal

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah's forthcoming visit to West Bengal is likely to be aimed at fostering unity and quelling factionalism. The previously sidelined former State President Dilip Ghosh and the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, emerge as key figures in the strategy for collective leadership. At the end of December 2025, in a personal meeting with Amit Shah, Ghosh had said that West Bengal is ready for change, but the BJP is not prepared yet. The party, according to available data of last Vidhan Sabha polls, is still nearly 10 percentage points behind the ruling TMC.

Awkward moment evolved outside Parliament as opposition MPs protesting price rise seen drinking Starbucks?

An awkward situation unfolded around Parliament when opposition MPs, who were staging a protest against rising prices and inflation, were seen ordering coffee from Starbucks — a brand often associated with premium pricing. The irony was not lost on observers and soon drew attention on social media, where users mocked the apparent contradiction between their protest message and lifestyle choice. While the MPs maintained that their demonstration was focused on government inaction over inflation, critics argued that the optics weakened their stance. The incident quickly became a talking point in political circles, with ruling party members seizing the opportunity to highlight what they called “performative outrage” by the opposition.

Manipur Bureaucracy under Strain despite government formation?

Manipur's bureaucracy remains under significant stress as factional politics intensifies, even after the formation of a new BJP-led government. Deep ethnic divisions between Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities, coupled with ongoing violence and militia activities, have paralyzed administrative functions, with officials caught between warring factions. Despite the government's efforts to restore normalcy, reports indicate escalating inter-community clashes and demands for separate administration, forcing high circles in Imphal and New Delhi to reconsider the decision to withdraw President's Rule prematurely. The move to empower the state government was intended to stabilize politics, but persistent unrest has led to second thoughts, with some arguing it exacerbated power vacuums and loyalty conflicts within the bureaucracy. Calls for governor-led intervention are growing to shield civil servants from political pressures.

Defence organization of Australia

The Australians have a different higher-defence organization than India. They have a four-star Chief of Defence Force (who plays a greater operational role), with the service chiefs being three-star officers. They focus mostly on centrally-based joint-planning, with a lot of power centralized under the CDF and his Joint Staff. We however, are trying to follow the U.S.-model, by integrating tri-service components under one commander per region. Even though Chauhan is committed to it, I estimate it'll take some mor years for the concept to mature and then gain operational exposure. So yes, it will take time.
