While contemplating what history is and what its associated companions have been, the answer we find interestingly covers a broad spectrum of empires, their battles, the civilizational evolutions, and in many cases, incessant and harsh struggles to get their freedom. During this journey, the patterns that man experienced make them believe the truth that there are invisible higher forces that affect and frame their destiny. This divine force has been looked at with amazement, awe and ultimately sublime devotion.
India has a long history of religious culture that profoundly affirms several incarnations of the supreme power. Lord Rama is among them and propounded the utmost emblem of sacredness and supreme righteousness. No other culture across the world has such an illustration in its life.

Before being a lord, a deity, or a religious figure, he has been caricatured as a simple prince of Ayodhya who, by his graceful, sincere, soft, amiable, and righteous demeanour, guides the world on how to be a god. HIS whole life suggests how a son, brother, husband, disciple and king should be? How can one be kind and ferocious at the same time? How one must be so disciplined that he willingly learns lessons from his archenemy, too? What should be the standards by which a human’s life is guided? What must be the responsibility of those who, by luck and favourable circumstances, are not subjected to the miserable conditions? How can these people treat others equally and be unbiased? How do the kings, monarchs and kingdoms inculcate supreme moral values into their countrymen?

In Indian discourse, divinity has not been understood only in the perspective of human beings, but it has been manifested in each object of Nature, belief, actions and even results too. The whole journey of Lord Rama explicitly demonstrates this fact and explores his association with all living and non-living entities of the Nature.

Ram is the epitome of that supreme manifestation where I become we. Always adorned as the “MARYADAPURSHOTAM”, what he delivers through his compassion, courage, and absolute truthfulness requires strenuous efforts. HE is feasible and yet difficult to attain. HE is the supreme reality, yet people across the globe imagine him in sundry ways. HE is the sound and the echo. HE is the conclusion of every introduction. He is the ultimate rest that any Indian seeks to accomplish.

After contemplating the character of the Rama people’s astonishment turns into esteem. Starting from his very birth, his life advocates a moral supremacy. Sage Tulsidas writes in his mammoth work Ramcharitmanas:

“नौमी तिथि मधुमास पुनीता, शुकल पक्ष अभिजित हरिप्रीता
मध्य दिवस अति शीत न घामा, पावन काल लोक विश्रामा”

This detail reflects a characteristic balance of his birth. With the auspicious number nine in numerology and the propitious Abhijit Nakshatra symbolising victory and divine protection, Lord Rama’s life delineates the poised demeanour, humble gestures and profound sacrifice. Ram keeps Maryada in every stream. HE does what he utters. HIS journey is an expedition of belief, and it is with this faith that he adores and surrenders himself before Lord Shiva.

The phenomenal similarity that underlies the lives of Lord Rama and King Ravana is that they are both ardent devotees of Lord Shiva. But a major difference is in compassion and pride.  Lord Rama surrenders with empathy, while King Ravana’s submission before lord Shiva is mingled with arrogance and pride. Both took Lord Shiva’s objects. Ram raised and broke the Pinaka (Lord Shiva’s bow) to destroy the emotion of Doer because, without the destruction of self, one could not be blessed with Mahashakti (Sita), while Ravana lifted Mount Kailasha in a display of ego blended with his outrageous strength.

In a way, Rama embodies the highest order of values. HE has been that immeasurable force that has provided a character to our nation. It is this association of HIM with India that the plunderers were keen to demolish the IDENTITY of the Nation by invading the Ayodhya temple. Mughal tyrant Babur destroyed the Lord Rama’s temple in the year 1528, and Ayodhya had waited relentlessly for more than five hundred years to give back to “Ram Lala” its ancient pride and valour. To revoke the begrimed recognition and to rekindle the emotion of Indianness, it was ardently required to rebuild the temple in the religious place.

It has been the long-standing belief that to erase the ancient glory and the indigenous characteristics of any nation, it is necessary to destroy its libraries and religious archives. The burning libraries of Nalanda and the decimation of our cultural heritages are the explicit efforts carried out not only by intruders, but it is a pathetic actuality too that, after independence, Ram Lala was deliberately ignored by the ruling governments. To maintain a false pretence of secularism and for their own benefits, they denied the existence of that stream that has been providing the strength, aura, fame and dignity to the Nation since time immemorial. By reconstructing the temple, the restoration of Indianness has also been established.

His blessing is attainable while serving the poorest, most miserable, and those who stand at the last step of society. India gets its life essence from the daily muttering of the name Rama-Rama. India, with its 79th Independence Day in the year 2026, seeks to envision its future with the blessings of Lord Rama while HE is ensconced, adorned and has taken HIS place in his majestic temple in HIS sacred city of Ayodhya, where the divine Sun rays anoint his head.  With this establishment, we, the Indians, must tread our path sincerely, adroitly and diligently so that we would transform our nation into a glorious abode of humanity.
