Indian Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi has been inducted into the US Army War College Hall of Fame, marking him as the third Indian to receive this honor.
Bhopal, April 24, 2026. In a significant recognition of India’s military leadership on the global stage, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Upendra Dwivedi has been inducted into the prestigious International Hall of Fame at the United States Army War College (AWC), located at Carlisle Barracks. The honour places him among an elite group of global military leaders and marks him as only the third Indian Army Chief to receive this distinction, after Gen V. K. Singh and Gen Bikram Singh. The Indian Army, in an official statement, noted that COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi was formally inducted during his visit to the AWC, where he also engaged deeply with the institution’s academic and strategic community. A distinguished alumnus and a USAWC Fellow, the Army Chief addressed faculty members and international officers, offering insights into contemporary leadership challenges, professional military education, and the rapidly evolving global security landscape. His visit went beyond ceremonial engagements. Gen Dwivedi participated in high-level academic interactions, including panel discussions, and reviewed advanced research projects under the Scholars Programme. He also toured key facilities of the War College, reinforcing India’s intellectual and strategic connect with one of the world’s premier military education institutions.
Earlier, India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, hosted the Army Chief at India House in Washington, setting the tone for a series of high-level defence engagements aimed at reinforcing bilateral military ties. The interaction, marked by strategic discussions and ceremonial warmth, reflected the steady deepening of defence diplomacy between the two countries.
According to reports the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. noted that the visit comes in close succession to recent tours by the Chiefs of the Naval Staff and Air Staff, indicating a sustained and coordinated push to enhance military-to-military engagement across all three services. This sequence of visits highlights a deliberate effort to institutionalize regular dialogue, expand joint training initiatives, and strengthen operational coordination.Positioning defence cooperation as a central pillar of the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, the embassy underscored that such high-level exchanges play a critical role in building interoperability, mutual confidence, and strategic alignment. These engagements are particularly significant in the context of evolving regional security dynamics, where both nations share converging interests. By fostering closer collaboration, the two sides aim to advance their shared vision of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, while also addressing emerging challenges through coordinated responses, technological collaboration, and enhanced defence preparedness.
