Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added another landmark to his political journey. He has now become India's longest continuously serving Prime Minister, surpassing the record of 4,398 days set by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The achievement sparked celebrations across the country on Wednesday. BJP leaders, party workers and supporters marked the occasion in different ways. Television channels aired special programmes. Newspapers carried editorials and analyses. Social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages, photographs and videos. The celebratory mood was visible throughout the day. Many leaders described the moment as a reflection of the trust that millions of Indians have placed in Modi's leadership over the years.
The Prime Minister's often-repeated mantra, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas," echoed in speeches delivered by BJP leaders across the country. Chief Ministers of several BJP-ruled states highlighted his governance model, welfare initiatives and development agenda while congratulating him on the milestone.
In New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi met senior BJP leaders and leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at Bharat Mandapam. The gathering became an occasion to exchange greetings and reflect on the government's achievements over the past decade. The Prime Minister also thanked the country's nearly 146 crore citizens for their unwavering support and faith in his leadership. He said every achievement of the government belonged to the people of India and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation.
In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav was generous in his praise for the Prime Minister. He described Modi as a visionary leader whose policies have transformed governance, accelerated development and strengthened India's cultural identity.
Dr. Yadav wrote a letter to the Prime Minister highlighting the support received by Madhya Pradesh for infrastructure development, river-linking projects, healthcare, housing, energy, agriculture and education initiatives. He credited the Union Government's support for helping the state move forward on several major development projects. The Chief Minister also referred to what he described as a growing sense of "Rashtra Nirman" or nation-building under Modi's leadership. He said the country had witnessed a renewed cultural and spiritual awakening during the past decade.
He pointed to the development and restoration of major religious centres, including the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi, Kedarnath, Somnath and Mahakal Lok in Ujjain. These projects have helped preserve India's cultural heritage while boosting tourism and local economies.
Adding an emotional touch to the celebrations, Dr. Yadav visited a Bajrang Temple in Bhopal and offered prayers for the Prime Minister's long life and good health. Images and videos of the visit quickly gained traction on social media and were widely covered by mainstream media outlets.
Among the defining moments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure are the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the expansion of digital governance through UPI and Digital India, large-scale infrastructure development, welfare schemes for the poor and India's successful G20 Presidency. His government also faced one of the biggest challenges in modern history during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite initial disruptions, India rolled out one of the world's largest vaccination drives, strengthened healthcare infrastructure and supplied vaccines to several countries under its Vaccine Maitri initiative.

Meanwhile, the occasion also triggered political reactions from the opposition. Congress leaders questioned the BJP's celebrations and renewed their criticism of the government on several issues. Responding to the criticism, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi took a swipe at the opposition. In a satirical remark, he said some opposition leaders appeared unable to see the government's achievements, comparing their condition to a person suffering from cataract (Motiabind). He suggested that political prejudice had prevented them from recognising the scale of changes that had taken place under Modi's leadership.
As celebrations continue, BJP leaders view the milestone as more than a personal achievement. For them, it represents a political era that has reshaped governance, welfare delivery, infrastructure development and India's cultural narrative on both national and global platforms.
